I hope you had a most excellent Christmas!

(Great to see that you're also protecting the wildlife : ) )

My Christmas was quiet, but sometimes that's nice to. :) I hope yours was good as well!

Speaking of wildlife, have you seen Blackfish? I just watched it today and now I can't get it out of my head. :/

Mine was much calmer family-wise than previously (yay for playing nicely) and I was only up there from Tues. p.m. to Fri. lunch-ish (or so it was supposed to be with the airline deciding to extend that by a few hours…). Always good to see the kiddies especially. So much better than chatting!

Yes to Blackfish! I saw it in a film department special showing at one of FL's institutions of higher education. Then I saw it again on CNN (more than once) and someone gave me the DVD. I couldn't get it out of my head either. Everyone that I encouraged to watch during the CNN repeat runs felt the same way. They were just speechless. Whatever we expected, it wasn't that. In the first public viewing, everyone was crying. It's one of those revelations that really causes you to stop and wonder and assess so much more that you might never have questioned. How can it not change the way that you see what should be a symbiosis, not a human-run dictatorship for species? Arrogance and greed… I feel guilty for every going to SW- not that they don't do good rescue work. It's the blatant abuse and how the show biz game eclipses the rescue and research. The show animals, ironically, need rescuing. There's something so fundamentally wrong there. You got me going again!

As soon as I saw it, I started messaging everyone I know: "Dude, you've got to see this."

Like you, I feel guilty about ever setting foot in that place and don't plan on doing it again. It's all about the money, putting on a good show, and damn the animals and the safety of the trainers.

I saw that tickets for SW are selling on Groupon now. Maybe people have stopped going? I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the movie blows over so to speak, but I hope there's enough people out there who see it and share with friends to have a lasting impact. I can't imagine watching that and not being affected.

I was really trying to convey how much people needed to see it. Everyone that I told really was blown away, with most messaging in the middle to say how moved, shocked and sad they were. Still, they were so glad that they'd seen it and were trying to TiVo to watch again or have friends/family watch. So powerful- just like the testaments from the trainers and researchers, who were so compelling.

I saw the Groupon too! That really made me wonder. It's not like they're a new outfit. I hope the "wave" (bad pun) doesn't diminish and that more people will see the movie as time goes on. If it's touched this many so far, that has to be a big step? I'm convincing myself.

Cleveland?! You left your paradise for Cleveland? :) The things we do for family... and work, but mostly family.

It's so nice to hear from you! I wish you and Mr. Gambit the very best for 2014!
