Fannish Items of Interest

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 6:07 PM
There’s an exclusive clip from The End of Time Part 2—from the radio. You can listen to it here. And if you want to listen to the entire radio interview (58 minutes—David Tennant interviews RTD about their roles in the series) you can listen to it here. The scene from The End of Time Part 2 is around the 13 minute mark.

ETA: Okay, here we go--you can watch a clip with most of the scene here. The radio bit seems to have a tiny bit more than what you see here.

Harold Ramis wants Ghostbusters III to shoot in 2010, and be released in 2011. For all anyone really knows, this might just be another rumor making the rounds. It really has been too long since the second movie, so I really don’t see it working if it does get made.

16 Incredibly Impractical Superhero Costumes.

We’re expected to get a bit of ice and snow tonight, but they stress that it won’t be much, and should dissipate quickly. The people in charge of salting the roads aren’t taking any chances after the bad ice storm earlier in the year—they’re doing roads, stopping and getting out and salting sidewalks, too. Even our road, which has a tendency to be one of the last to get done.

It is rated XXX

Yes, it is episode 100 of DOCTOR WHO, JESSE AND JEREMY where the trio find themselves still stuck on various time zones of ancient Gallifrey. This time they are in a school where the students want to kill themselves because they know they are being used and brainwashed. The Doctor wants to stop this and a revolution ensues. A LOT of xxx sex ensues, too.

Characters: TARDIS, Ten
Spoilers: Stolen Earth and End of Time Part 1
Disclaimer: I dream every night about owning it, but for now, I settle for writing fanfiction.

Summary would be spoilery... sorry! One Second Out of Sync

Some catching up on fic.

*blushes*  I'm not exactly sure what I've shared with the class so there might be a repeat.  Sorry if there is.  But there's a bit of something for everyone: some angst, a bit of funny, and a bit of....well, random.

Title: Not Going Anywhere
Characters: Doctor, bits of Donna
Summary/Timey-Wimey Factor: set after my two other fics, Wake up, Lady and Okay Now?, which were both written for the challenge of "twisted". This one is written for Weekly Drabble Challenge #32, for the prompt "flexible".
Rating: PG I'd say
Notes: Written for a couple people who had requested a follow-up to the other two pieces. :)

Title:  Finding the Right Words
Characters:  Donna (mentions of Lance)
Summary:  Donna can't find the right words.  (Or, a bit in which Donna grows up a bit and realizes maybe Lance wasn't that bad of a guy after all.)
Rating:  PG
Notes:  Written for Weekly Drabble Challenge #31 at doctor_donna, for the prompt 'theater'

Title:  Should Have Stayed at Home

Characters:  Wilf, Donna, Sylvia

Summary:  Donna really would rather have stayed at home

Rating:  G

Timey-Wimey Factor:  Right before Voyage of the Damned

Notes:  Written for weekly drabble challenge #36 at doctor_donna, for the prompt ‘stay’.  Also, the idea/title is completely jacked from Partners in Crime, and I feel no shame.

I'll be along with more soon.  Hope you enjoy!  :)

rec: the wish machine by spastic_visions

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 7:24 PM
Story: The Wish Machine
Author: Spastic_visions
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2229
Author's summary: The dangers of dreaming too hard. [2.13 spoilers]
Characters/Pairings: Captain Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: none.

Recced because: Well, there is a warning to this one: it'll break your heart. Torchwood find mcguffins all the time, and in this little gem it's "a wish machine" - like Harry Potter's Mirror of Erised, it allows people to see their heart's desire. Coupled with Owen and Tosh's death in Exit Wounds - and Tosh has always been one of my favourite Torchwood characters - the result is more bitter than sweet. But it's also bittersweet because it does a brilliant job at capturing who Tosh really is - she often gets sidelined, in the show as well as in fanfic, but The Wish Machine does her absolute justice.

End of Year Word Count

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Along with moving, starting grad school, and changing jobs, 2009 also was the year that I really started writing fic. Looking back to 2007 and 2008, I wrote 8 stories/drabbles all together in those 2 years. In 2009, I published 8 stories in five months. I also wrote my first fic over 3,000 words, participated in my first bigbang, wrote my first series (three fics count, right?), wrote a heck of a lot of crossovers, and have received some very nice reviews (THANK YOU!!).

Ultimately, I published 43,286 words in the year (all between August and December). That word count doesn't include all the random drafts/drabbles I have on my hard drive.

Of course, I doubt this could have happened at all without my lovely beta [info]ambrosia4all . Thanks for supporting me throughout the year and giving me encouragement when I was stuck (and whining).

In conclusion, yay!

p.s. I'm pretty sure I owe someone a fic, I think the prompt went back to the CM/Bones fic I did. Prompt was maybe "bring your squints to work" or something along those lines. If you read this journal, please let me know who you are! I feel terrible for not getting back to you earlier, so let me know and I'll see if I can make it up to you someway (extra-long CM/Bones? Crack!fic? You name it).

Title: It’s a new life (and I’m feeling good)
Rating/warnings: PG
Genre: fluff, humour
Characters: Ten, Rose, cameos from Jackie, Mickey and Shareen
Spoilers: set between “The Christmas Invasion” and “New Earth”
Summary: In the days between Christmas and New Years the Doctor and Rose begin to re-learn each other and in the meantime, they discover that his new body seems to have several surprising new abilities including...re-plastering walls? But certainly not dancing, no definitely not – this Doctor will not be doing any literal or metaphorical dancing.
Authors Note: Thought we could all do with something a bit lighter at the moment. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: Doctor Who and all associated characters/situations etc do not belong to me, I’m just borrowing them.

( I like my body when it is with your body. It is so quite new a thing. Muscles better and nerves more. – e.e. cummings )

I has a sekrit.

It is that I sooper sekritly LOFF the trolls at [profile] applyingtograd and [profile] academics_anon. I find them amusing as hell, and I think those are both comms whose members tend to take themselves a little too seriously. The stupid burns a little at times, but mostly I just laugh.

Today was full of customer service BS, since my boss did a bunch of hold collecting (i.e. collecting funds that were due, in some cases months ago) last week; unfortunately, this week she's on vacation, so I get to deal with people calling me up and bitching me out about strange charges on their credit cards. Seriously, people, I understand that it's the holidays and everyone is strapped. I think we should do this sort of thing in May, when everyone's just gotten their tax returns. But unfortunately this is the end of the fiscal year. It is not my fault, and being a total jerk to me on the phone certainly isn't going to get you anywhere. The woman who was marginally nice to me got a $107 refund; the woman who was a total and complete bitch over $9.70 was rewarded with stubbornness and the number for customer support (HA - good luck, lady).

Not that I'm not in favor of being in touch with one's inner bitch, and there is a time and a place. But customer service reps are people, too, and it's good to at least start with the honey before whipping out the vinegar.

Sherlock Holmes, btw, was a fucking brilliant piece of fanfiction. It was slash-tacular and full of steampunk awesomeness. It appears that Robert Downey Jr. is going to be alternating Sherlock Holmes and Ironman movies for awhile, and I am entirely okay with that. Who knows, maybe it'll keep him on the wagon?
