Absolutely ranks among the top 10 J2 tales I've read in the past three BBs....AWESOME!

How could you readers not be totally invested in such great characters!!???!! I loved the way everyone recognized how great Jensen's leadership skills were but him. Truly enjoyed how he secretly worships these great sharing, caring, brave young people and yet somehow feels he's not their equal. So sad.......

Yes....please do at least a few time stamps.... Jensen and his grudge match against the Bringer of Death would be good. I'm sure he was quite clever..... BUT NOT AS CLEVER AS YOU, NIGHTRIDER!!!! Thank you ! \0/ \0/

Oh, wow. *blushes* You're incredibly kind. :)

In the end, I think this story is more about humanity, about what makes people so resilient, rather than just a story about a boy meeting a boy. :) I hope that came across.

I have several timestamps I'd love to do - the scene with Jensen taking down the BD, how Jensen meets Chris again after the war starts, and Jared and Jensen's first date. Those were a few ideas I had tossed around at least. We'll see how far I get.

Thanks again for the wonderful feedback. Comments like this make the whole process worth it.

I sure do love me a good post-apocalyptic story, so this really hit the spot. It felt both comfortably familiar and yet entirely original and I loved the idea of humanity, spread about the place, using radio to share their humanity, not to make war plans, but just to tell stories...
If you do write up those deleted scenes...or even find your way to a sequel, I'm so there! :)

The big irony for me is that normally I'm not a huge fan of post-apocalyptic stories. Go figure!

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the story. :)

At first I wasn't interested - remake of 'Terminator' 'yawn',
then you go me hooked on Jensen's character - a reluctant leader. Good job.

I'm glad you took a chance on the story even though it wasn't your cup of tea. :) I'm even happier to hear that you enjoyed it.

Thanks for reading!

So, I was a very busy BigBang reader this year and I actually devoured over 55 fics already. AND NOW I REALLY CAN SAY THAT THIS HERE WILL BE ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!!

I loved this so fucking much. Jensen being the born leader who don't want to be the man they all want him to be and finally accepting his role. Jensen always giving that small boy his food, taking care of everybody. On the other hand everybody takes care of Jensen and then the slow development where Jared starts caring for Jensen more and more (I especially loved the part where Jensen gives his food to the boy and Jared then starts feeding Jensen his food). This little group in that camp was just perfect!

And as soon as the woman on the radio started to tell the story about her brother and the car I had a hand slapped over my mouth and tears in my eyes (yes, I am a very emotional reader).

And then Jensen taking down that fucking machine all by himself!! Jared leading him to his room and patching him up. That scene between Jensen and Chad by the water and then getting high. So many things I loved here!

Don't know what else to say! This was fantastic :D

55 fics?! I'm impressed! I'm way behind on my BB reading. Now that I've posted, I hope to get caught up again. :)

I appreciate you taking the time to point out the things you liked. To me, that's the best kind of feedback - knowing what worked and what didn't. Jensen feeding the boy and Jared, in turn, feeding him was meant to be an intimate scene. I'm glad you picked up on that.

Ah, Jensen and Chad getting high. I wrote that scene when I had a bad case of writer's block. Basically it went something like: "None of my characters are talking to each other. WHY aren't they talking to each other?" *headdesk*...*cue Tom Petty in iTunes* "I know! I'll get them high!"

Thank you so much for the enthusiastic and thoughtful review. I'm so happy you enjoyed the story.

Epic story! Thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

I like how they don't talk things out, long meaningful conversations are overrated. Banters and blunt remarks or just silence are so much more fun. Like Misha's insights though. It's so funny at the beginning when Misha has to endure Jared trying to figure Jensen out and threatens to throw pillow at him if he doesn't shut up. They think too much, don't they? Jensen, Jared, and Chad (cue "Jensen hates me because he yelled at me and he doesn't care about anyone else either..."), they all think too much. But they don't talk about it. Could be frustrating but you made it interesting and even fascinating. Would like to know what Misha has been thinking the whole time, though. Maybe he is really very zen about everything and constantly speaks his mind, which, sometimes, most of the times, is in riddles.

Man! Jensen has some serious problems. But he is still lovable. His silently enduring everything, doubting himself, and thinking he deserves every insult and punch throwing his way, all the while planning years ahead for the survival of the camp, are heartbreaking. He is so lonely that a little bit of fringe activity of the group would satisfy him. How could he be afraid to join? But it's what makes a complex personality. Well done!

Thank you so much! I still can't believe it's over. What a wild ride!

I'm glad you liked Misha. Someone had to be willing to talk things out as you said. He's my wise character. :) To be honest, he was the hardest to write. I'm not sure I understood him half the time.

I'm not sure if I see Jensen as lonely. More just preoccupied. I think in a world like that, we would all be different. I can't imagine going through what they did and coming out the same.

I appreciate your feedback and, most importantly, your support. You were instrumental in getting me to finish this. Gold star for you! XD

Thank you so much for the kind review!

Chad was having a moment of insecurity. The prior night this occurred: He had all but taken Chad’s head off when he found him fast asleep while on watch duty. He’d bitched Chad up one side and down the other before dismissing him to his room while Jensen took the rest of his shift. But it was done. Finished. And Jensen is the last person who’d ever rat someone out. Let Jared believe whatever he wants to believe. It isn’t Jensen’s story to tell.

I'm sorry I didn't make that more clear. :)

Thanks again for reading and taking the time to comment!

Absolutely brilliant. I loved the whole concept behind your story. It was so well detailed and planned out.
I hated those machines and I was so glad that Jensen managed to take one out.
Jared and Jensen found love and Jared also has his sister.
It was a great end to a perfect fic.
Thank you so sharing and for the pdf as it will always be treasured.

Thank you! It's been two years in the making so I had a lot of time to plan. :) My fabulous beta helped, too.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. I love having PDFs of my favorite fics so I know what it means to treasure them.

Thanks again!

I usually don't read post-apoc fics because I find them so utterly depressing in a way that just makes me full of anxiety and is not at all emotionally rewarding. But I decided to try this one because it sounded interesting, and I am so glad this is the one I chose to go with, because you did something I haven't seen in a post-apoc fic before: you gave me hope! I really, really cannot say enough for how much I love the way you wrote the little world they've carved out for themselves. There was so much spirit and love under all the despair of the reality and even though you didn't write some miracle solution to the problem, I nonetheless came away feeling that together they would be okay. And the fireside chats--I was already thinking that was one of my favorite things you gave us because it was such a strong bonding moment and so sad but so touching at the same time and then you had to go and have Megan tell that story about stupid Jared and I was just trying not to sob loud enough to be overheard on the Metro. Totally embarrassing, but totally worth it. I really enjoyed this, BB. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not a huge fan of post-apoca fics either. They're usually just too dark and depressing for me. I have to have some hope. ;) I'm basically a big, fat sap at heart.

Ah, the fireside chats. I'm so glad someone pointed that out. That was one of the first ideas I had for the story.

Thanks for taking the chance on this story even though it's not your typical read. I would say I'm sorry I made you cry on the Metro, but that's about the highest praise you could give me so I'm going to take it and run. XD

Thanks, doll! I'm so happy you enjoyed the story.

I prefer stories about relationships and people rather than just the crises they're facing. :) 46,000 words about machines kicking ass would have gotten old after awhile.

I definitely think the ending is hopeful. It's too broken of a world to have any quick fixes. This way, they keep doing what they do best - survive, fight and love.

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the story.

What a fantastic story! I was concerned about Jensen. The way he kept his distance, not wanting to get involved emotionally, little sleep and food, he was sort of becoming machine-like himself. Looking forward to any sequels that you write.

Huh. You know, I hadn't actually thought about Jensen's machine-like behavior before you mentioned it. It's an interesting correlation. :)

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I'm so happy you enjoyed the story!

Ohhhhh, how I loved this! I wanted to stay here for a long, long time. I'm invested; I want to know what happens next. I *love* how you didn't go the easy route, ever; you held off, and held back, and everything was the better for it.

Your Jensen is a marvellous creation. It's hard to do, that strong, silent type, without making an idealised creature that no-one could empathise with. But Jensen's fragility was right there, the whole time; we *felt* his uncertainty in his own leadership, his own identity.

I'm going to have to re-read this, several times, to fully appreciate all your very, very clever decisions; how you structured Chris and Chad into the narrative, how you worked Jared and Misha in there. And just to enjoy a story that manages to be desperate, and dangerous, but also warm, and hopeful.

Thank you for a terrific reading experience. My only criticism is - it was too short!!!

Too short?!? *faints*

XD Of course, if you're going to have criticism, that's the best kind to have.

In the world that surrounds this story, I don't think it's possible to go the easy route. Everything is harder and every action has reactions and consequences.

I'm a huge fan of long stories with multiple characters. It wasn't just about Jared and Jensen, even though I obviously have a very special place in my heart for them.

I'm so happy you loved the story. Your feedback has absolutely made my day! Thank you!

I really liked this story - I think that I have not read the story but watched a movie, a 3D movie with with the smells of the desert, oil, sometimes despair, but with a sense of hope. Thank you!!
And absolutely wonderful art!

Thank you so much!

I actually struggle with action scenes and world building so if I sold this world to my readers, I'm thrilled. :)
