Summary: On the eve of the third world war, major world powers built machines to stand in the place of human soldiers. Who knew the machines would get along better than the humans ever did? Governments and cities fell one after another as the machines -- red-eyed, metal monsters built to level cities and destroy humanity -- wreaked havoc across the world. Now there is no communication, no infrastructure, no law to rely on, and people are living in scattered pockets across the globe. Jensen is a member and unsaid leader of one of those camps, dug into underground bunkers by night, and raiding the desolate husk of a broken city by day. Jared finds his way to the ragtag group of survivors, and they all struggle to find their place in a world that is nothing like what they have known.

This has just taken the #1 to read place on my long J2BB reading list! Where is the soundtrack?!
Aug. 3rd, 2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
Ha! That's one vote for the soundtrack! I mentioned in my author's notes that if people were interested, I'd put it together. :) Due to timing issues and internet connection fail, I was running out of time. I can put it together, though. I already know the songs to use.

I hope you enjoy the story, hon!

I read this story is by far one of favorite in this years big bang! Its lovely and so very touching. I wish for a sequel because it seem that we finally got to the romance part of the story later. But the story, the plot, it had me on my seat the entire time, hoping for more! It was a very intriguing world that you have created.

The win for me was definitely Jensen's character. John Connor at his best!!! I really hope you will continue to write more J2 stories since you have a way with words! Thanks so much for sharing this story with us!

The romance in this story definitely came late. It took a lot to get them to that point. :)

I have several deleted scenes and things I just couldn't get to that I'd love to write in this universe. Hopefully I'll find the time to go back to it.

I appreciate your enthusiastic review! This is my first solo BB, and I'm very happy it's been well received. I'm definitely planning more J2 stories. I'm sure I'll sign up for the BB next year if they offer the challenge.

Grrrl! I am so HAPPY for you right now! You know how much love I have for this fic, since I've definitely not been shy in telling you what I think of it. I'm so glad that everyone else is finally getting the chance to love it with me! Enjoy this, because you've so earned it. *squeezes*

*collapses on top of you*

I'm still kind of in shock over here. What a wild ride! If it hadn't been for you, this fic wouldn't be half of what it is now. I honestly, honestly mean that. If I could drag you to work with me to beta my work reports, I would. ;) (Gay porn is more fun, though)

Brilliant fic, enjoyed from start to finish. Loved the nod to T4. Massively well done, loved it.
Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much! XD

This story was amazing. It caught my interest from the first paragraph and never let me go until the end. The character developement and world building is spot on. You really made me fall in love with all of them, not just Jared/Jensen, but all the people surviving in this place. It takes a true talent to weave a well crafted story consistently through and come out at the end with it all working flawlessly. Thank you so much for sharing! I look forward to anything else you write :)

Thank you so much! It was a wild ride for me that lasted nearly two years. :)

I thoroughly enjoy using multiple characters in long fics. It adds depth and keeps things interesting. In this story, Jared and Jensen were a large part of it, but it took the entire group to make it work. I have a special place in my heart for each one of them.

Thanks again for the generous praise. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the story, and hope you continue to enjoy what I write in the future. I have high hopes for timestamps in this 'verse!

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this story. I was absolutely entraced by the desolete atmosphere and the growing attraction between the boys. Jensen was especially fantastic. Brilliant work! I'd quite happily read more of this. :)

Thank you so much!

I do have more planned once I have completely recovered from the mad rush of finishing this story and getting it posted. :)

I should warn everyone up front: I'm a slow as hell writer. Snails move faster than I do.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave a comment. I do appreciate it!

I downloaded the pdf and am back to tell you about how much I enjoyed the fic. It was so touching and real and, despite the dire situation, really heartwarming. I loved everyone. And Jensen finding Jared's sister in the end was so sweet!

Thank you so much for coming back to tell me you enjoyed the story. :)

It took me so long to write this. I still can't believe it's finished!

Thanks again for the lovely review!

This was so good. I really loved your characterization of Jensen, especially. Such an amazing hero -- flaws and all. And Jared had such heart. They were lovely together. This was perfect. Not one sentimental moment, yet still so warm. Really good action scenes. I loved The Terminator and so was super receptive to this theme. You painted such a great, bleak picture of what life was like in the camp. The desperation and the fear. The joy at the little wins. Extra kudos for the scene were Jensen was high -- that was so good. I liked the way the changed and the way he was still the same. And how he remembered it all.

Thank you so much! I honestly can't thank you enough for your support and friendship throughout this lengthy process. It wasn't easy, but I'm so proud of where this story ended up.

Jensen and Chad getting high - yeah, I totally didn't see that one coming. That's one of my favorite parts of the writing process, when, even as the author, you don't have a clear idea of where a story is going. I think I always knew where this was going, I just had no idea how to get there.

Thanks again for the lovely feedback. I appreciate it!

Wow, this rocked!

I read it on my kindle during my hour on the exercise bike, and when the hour was up I hadn't finished, so I kept cycling until the story was done--how's that for finding it riveting?

I thought the world-building was fantastic, you had me totally believing the scenario and yet you didn't go overboard with the war aspect, you hit the balance just right.

And the characters were jump-off-the-page real, especially your conflicted hero Jensen. I really appreciated the slow build to the Js relationship, it felt earned.

The only flaw was that it ended. How about a sequel? :) :) :)

Thank you so much! My story inspires exercise! Now that's something to be proud of. :)

I still can't believe it's over. It's been so long in the making, it feels almost surreal now.

I appreciate the compliment on the world-building because that's an area where I feel I struggle. My characters can talk all day, but ask me to describe the room to you, and I'm at a loss.

I'm considering a sequel. There were many things I didn't get to write due to time constraints. We'll have to see if I feel inspired during NaNoWriMo this year.

Thanks again for the wonderful review. I appreciate it!

I think your story is amazing. I love the relationships you showed between the characters and how protective both Chris and Danneel were of Jensen. The world-building you did was very good. I related well to all of your characters, but I particularly liked the way you treated Misha. Many times in the story I recognized just how much he acted like Misha really would in a given circumstance.

Thanks for writing and sharing your story with us. Great job.

First, I'm so sorry about my horribly late reply to your feedback. I'm not sure how I missed it until now.

I'm thrilled you were able to relate to the characters. In the end, this story was about relationships and the backdrop was the war torn world. I didn't want that to overtake the story.

For some reason I always picture Misha as this wise Zen master type. I'm glad my interpretation worked for you.

Thanks again for the wonderful feedback. I'm so glad you liked the story. <3
